Proposed Temporary Road Closure - New Years Eve Event
Nelson City Council is proposing to temporarily close the following roads to ordinary traffic for the dates listed below.
New Year’s Eve Event - Proposed Road Closures:
- Trafalgar Square – between Church Street and Trafalgar Square East, including the Church Steps
Date and time of scheduled closure: Tuesday 31 December 2024 – Wednesday 1 January 2025, Closed from 5:00 am – 12:00 pm.
New Year’s Eve - Safety - Proposed Road Closures:
- Bridge Street between Trafalgar Street and Collingwood Street
- Hardy Street between Church Street and Collingwood Street, including Hope Street and Morrison Street intersections
- Trafalgar Street between Bridge Street and Hardy Street
- Park Street
- Alma Street
- Buxton Carpark
Date and time of scheduled closure:
Tuesday 31 December 2024 – Wednesday 1 January 2025, Closed from 8:00 pm – 6:00 am.
These closures are for public safety in Nelson’s city centre for the event on New Year’s Eve. The road will be closed, and access will be unavailable during this time. The eBus (Route 1) will be affected by the closure and will operate an alternative route during this time.
To understand how this closure could impact residents/businesses, Council is seeking feedback on this proposal, by Wednesday 7 August 2024.
