Proposed Temporary Road Closure - The Spectacle - Additional Closures

Nelson City Council has received a proposal from Matthews Eyecare to temporarily close the following roads to ordinary traffic for the date listed below. 

  • Selwyn Place – from Trafalgar Square West to Collingwood Street, including the Church Steps and the intersection with Sussex Street
  • Trafalgar Square East
  • Hardy Street – between Montgomery Square Carpark and Collingwood Street
  • Church Street
  • Morrison Street
  • Hope Street
  • Park Street

    Date and time of scheduled closure:
    Saturday 14 December 2024. Closed between 12:00 pm – 10:00 pm

This is for The Spectacle, a city centre running event.

The event will be held from 3:00 pm to 8:30 pm. 

ADDITIONAL CLOSURES

Extend the time for an already approved road closure:

  • Selwyn Place – from Trafalgar Square West to Collingwood Street, including the Church Steps and the intersection with Sussex Street

Date and time of scheduled closure: Saturday 14 December 2024.
Closed between 3:00 pm – 10:00 pm, extend to 12.00am Sunday 15 December 2024.

Add a new road closure:

  • Trafalgar Square West – between Trafalgar Square and Nile Street West
    Date and time of scheduled closure:
    Closed between 7:00 am Saturday 14 December to 4.00 pm Sunday 15 December 2024.

    The running event will be held from 3:30 pm to 8:30 pm and a band is playing from 9.00pm – 10.00pm.
    The roads will be closed, and access will be unavailable during this time, except in an emergency.
    The Route 1 bus will be diverted for the closure.

To understand how this closure could impact residents/businesses, Council is seeking feedback on this proposal, by Wednesday 25 September 2024.
