Council boundary

Nelson City covers a land area of 422km2 from Champion Road, Stoke in the southwest, where it has a boundary with Richmond in Tasman District, to the Bryant Range in the east and Cape Soucis (Raetihi) in the north. Urban development is on the flat land and hillsides between the Bryant Ranges to the southeast and the Haven and Tasman Bay to the northwest.

Nelson City is the east and southeast by the Marlborough District Council.
