The harsh conditions of the Dun Mountain’s high mineral content alpine environment mean that only a restricted range of specialised plants and animals live here. The area supports around 28 plant species, most of which are classified as threatened, rare or that only grow in a limited range.

Look out for the Mineral Belt Harebell (Wahlenbergia albomarginata ssp. Olivina), Mineral Belt Pincushion (Colobanthuys “serpentine”) or the Mineral Belt Forget-Me-Not (Myosotis monroi). See the Dun Mountain Ecology brochure (14MB PDF) for more details of these unique plants.
